What is AMP?

Founded in 2018, AMP is a Small Group Personal Training (SGPT) gym that specialises in great Coaching. We believe that with great coaching our members can achieve more than they ever thought possible. We see this time and time again with our awesome AMP’ers. Can you share how you got here?

I have been in the industry for 18 years and have seen it all. There was a gap in the market with gyms, from both an excellence perspective but also a service perspective. The expectations of customers in gyms is very low and therefore the customer experience matched it. This is changing in the boutique fitness sector and it is forcing a change across the industry.

Like all of the AMP Coaches, I have a MSc and BSc in Sport Science. After my Masters I spent a few years Lecturing at Loughborough and working within Olympic Sports. Then in 2011, I decided to move back to London to launch my own business, Freedom2Train. We provided outdoor PT across London and ran the gym at Claridges and CHHP (a clinic on Harley St). In 2018 AMP was Founded and we started the build of AMP, Marylebone.

AMP combines the detail of a 5* hotel, the knowledge of a sports med clinic and the focus of performance sport. This powerful combination is delivered in the friendliest gym in London, where everyone knows your name and you always feel motivated to workout, even on the toughest of days.

What’s something surprising about your job, that other people might not realise?

A Coach will care typically about 3 things: when they can eat, when they can train and the best coaches always want to know what Education opportunities they will have. This is an important focus for us and we pride ourselves on the educational opportunities we provide as a business.

Do you have to be fit to join?

Not at all. Anyone can start, we will help you take those first few steps whether you’re a guest or member, we will make sure you enjoy the workout and most importantly, you will want to comeback for more tomorrow.

Talk us through a typical AMP session.

An AMP session starts with some Yoga inspired mobility flow to get you moving, then we move on to the Movement Prep to get the body prepped and ready to train. The heart rate builds throughout this block as we get set for the first strength block, this is always a mix of lower, upper body and core. Then we move onto the second block of work which will get the heart rate pumping more before our final finisher piece where we will combine some conditioning into the workout using the Assault Bikes, Rowers, Ski erg or Rowers. Then it’s a fist bump and you’re done.

How many sessions should I do per week to see results?

We always say 1 per week is better than nothing but progress is slow. Two per week is more than twice as good as one and 3 per week means you will make progress and see results quickly!

I travel a lot: how can I make sure that I complete my programme?

At AMP we offer a remote coaching option for our members, and it is something we can work with anyone on wherever they are in the world. We combine Zoom sessions with our coaching app to ensure you keep making progress and are always accountable to your Coach.
